Skidmore in Spain, run in conjunction with Tufts University, offers you amazing opportunities and access to Spanish culture. It is designed for students with high-intermediate or advanced knowledge of Spanish language, and strives to integrate students into the life of Madrid and Alcalá through courses at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, or the Universidad de Alcalá de Henares. It also offers customized global internships and volunteer opportunities to help meet your academic and professional goals.
You may enroll in the program for the full academic year, the fall, or the spring.
Our program centers are in Madrid and Alcalá. Students tend to take classes in both cities but choose to live in.
- Alcalá is a city with a small-town feel. It offers a close-knit community, a great university and a rich cultural experience. When you walk down the streets of Alcalá de Henares, the look and feel of Medieval and Renaissance Spain is all around you. With a population of 200,000, Alcalá boasts quiet, winding cobbled streets and gorgeous medieval buildings.
- Madrid is a diverse, modern city that has been greatly impacted over the last twenty years by immigration from Eastern Europe, Latin America, East Asia and Africa. The result is a city that retains the best of its age-old traditions and venues while offering a rich diversity of cultural expression that can be seen and experienced in neighborhoods all over the city.

The housing option for the Skidmore in Spain program is a home-stay with a Spanish family. Living with a host family allows students to fully participate in Spanish culture on a daily basis. Each applicant completes an extensive Housing Questionnaire, which our staff in Spain use to match students and families to the best of our ability. The student's preferences concerning personal comforts, eating habits, health requirements (smoking, allergies, etc.), and family composition are all taken into consideration during family selection. Each student has single room with a family (single woman, mother with children, a couple, or a couple with children at home).
